Archangels are God’s presence in all of life to help us through all the issues and rough spots we may encounter. They also elevate us to the high places of our soul.
There are Seven Archangels…sometimes called by different names, but these are their sacred services. Take them into your consciousness and hold them close.
Archangel Gabriel’s name means ‘God is my strength’. One of the two archangels specifically named in the Bible in both the Old and New Testament, he is often portrayed holding a trumpet as the patron of communications, Archangel Gabriel is the messenger angel, acting as a messenger of God. He helps writers, teachers, journalists and leaders to convey their message, to find motivation and confidence, and to market their skills. He also assists in overcoming issues of fear and procrastination in communication as well as breaking through barriers in all areas of creation.
Archangel Raphael, whose name means ‘God heals’, is the archangel designated for physical and emotional healing. In Hebrew the word “rophe” means ‘to heal’. Archangel Raphael not only helps in healing individuals but also helps healers in their healing practice. He can help reduce addictions and cravings and is powerful in healing other injuries and illnesses, with cures often occurring immediately. Archangel Raphael aids in restoring and maintaining harmony and peace. He is also the patron of travelers, watching over them to ensure a safe and harmonious journey.
His name means one “Who is like unto God.” This is the chief of angels who summoned all the angels to arms when Lucifer revolted against God, and, as the Bible tells us “There was war in Heaven.” Defeated, Lucifer fell to the pit wherein he now resides. That is symbolic of Archangel Michael’s protection against all evil. His mighty sword is the attribute most associated with him. It is not just an instrument of assault or protection, but also a blade that cuts through barriers in our life, finding new ways for us to progress against whatever obstacle we may face. He defends the cause of God’s oneness against the presumption of chaos and destruction. He delivers us from the pain and loss that has come from wrongful judgments brought against us. He is the protector of those who have faith in God. Not surprisingly, Michael was taken as a special patron by knights and crusaders and to him was attributed victory in many key battles. He is the guardian angel of law enforcement officers and first-responders in events of crisis, and other public servants who show up for the protection of others.
The patron saint of animals and the environment, Archangel Ariel’s name means ‘lion or lioness of God’. His role is to protect the earth, its natural resources, ecosystems and all wild life and is always available with support and guidance for any activities that involve environmentalism and protecting, healing, rejuvenating, and/or maintaining our environment. Archangel Ariel assists in healing injured animals working closely with Archangel Raphael in these endeavors. It is believed he also works to oversee the order of the physical universe including all planets, the sun, the moon and the stars. When seeking to learn more about nature or connect more deeply while hiking or exploring, he assists in providing insights and opportunities to expand your awareness and experience.
The patron saint of artists, Archangel Jophiel’s name means ‘beauty of God’. He helps us to see and maintain beauty in life and supports us in thinking beautiful thoughts and in staying positive as well as in creating and manifesting beauty in our surroundings and hearts. Archangel Jophiel watches over artists supporting in creating beautiful art, assists us in slowing down and bringing calm to our lives, and heals negativity and chaos, helps to tame your ego, and to bring organization to a place or situation. When seeking wisdom or a shift in perspective Archangel Jophiel is the archangel to call in to uplift you and help you see things from a different point of view
Zadkiel’s name means “the Grace of God.” He’s considered to be the archangel of mercy and benevolence, perhaps because of his role in stopping Abraham from sacrificing his son, Isaac, as an offering to God. Zadkiel can help you feel mercy and compassion toward yourself and others, and let go of judgment and unforgiveness. In this way, he’s a healing angel who works beside Archangel Michael to replace negative energies with faith and compassion. Zadkiel helps us see the Divine light within ourselves and others, instead of focusing on the surface personality, behavioral mistakes, or the ego. If you’re having difficulty forgiving yourself or someone else, ask Zadkiel to intervene. He’ll act like a chimney sweep who cleans your body, mind, and heart of unforgiveness. This doesn’t mean that you’re sanctioning someone’s abusive behavior. It just means that you’re no longer willing to cart around the emotional residue of old situations.
Archangel Zadkiel is also widely known for his help with memory functions. If you need to memorize important information, you need to remember where you put your car keys, or you just want to develop your memory in general, call upon Zadkiel
Archangel Uriel is known as the angel of wisdom. He shines the light of God’s truth into the darkness of confusion. Uriel means “God is my light” or “fire of God.” The faithful turn to Uriel for help seeking God’s will before making decisions, learning new information, solving problems and resolving conflicts. They also turn to him for help letting go of destructive emotions such as anxiety and anger, which can prevent believers from discerning wisdom or recognizing dangerous situations. In art, Uriel is often depicted carrying either a book or a scroll, both of which represent wisdom. Another symbol connected with Uriel is an open hand holding a flame or the sun, which represents God’s truth.
