Description
Coriander is a fragrant annual herb with delicate white flowers turning into masses of round seeds. The essential oil is steam distilled from the crushed, ripe seeds. Coriander seeds have been used for thousands of years, by the Egyptians as an aphrodisiac, by the Romans and Greeks to flavor their wines and in India for cooking. Coriander seeds were even found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. The Carmelite order in France used Coriander seeds to flavor their 17th century toilet water and it is still used in Chartreuse and Benedictine liqueurs.
